Executive Boardroom “Power-Hour” Think Tank

A leading Milwaukee-based financial-services firm partnered with Automation Arts to renovate their corporate headquarters, creating a high-tech “Power-Hour” think tank space for daily strategy sessions between key executives and producers. The client’s identity remains confidential at their request.

Occupying four floors in a developing area of Downtown Milwaukee, the firm’s renovation included the build-out of a portion of the 7th floor, centred on a boardroom that needed to support daily one-hour strategy sessions with both on-site and remote participants, and videoconferencing capabilities that had to be top-notch.

THE CHALLENGE

Design a Videoconferencing Space Built for C-Suite Standards

Prior to the renovation, executives met in a U-shaped configuration in the centre of the 7th floor — a layout poorly suited to videoconferencing or hearing participants clearly. The client’s wish list included state-of-the-art videoconferencing, cameras that followed each speaker automatically, a central control system, and microphones with individual mute/unmute control, all built around a firm priority on impeccable audio quality.

  • Ensure every participant is seen on camera and heard clearly, on-site and remotely
  • Support a customised speaker-tracking system across 8 cameras
  • Deliver microphones with individual mute and unmute control at every seat
  • Continue the AV build-out while parts of the space remained in active daily use
THE SOLUTION

Individually-Switched Microphones at Every Seat

Automation Arts specified a Clockaudio CS1SN-RF boundary-layer microphone at every seat around the conference table and the bar-height tables near the windows, each with an individual mute/unmute switch and clear sightlines to the projector screen. A customised speaker-tracking system used eight cameras that responded to each microphone’s mute status, capturing both audio and video of whoever was speaking in real time.

A Crestron control system tied the room together — from the 15″ touch panel and mic levels through to the motorised shades — with a moderator holding override control to keep the daily sessions running smoothly.

  • 28 Clockaudio CS1SN-RF boundary-layer microphones installed across the table and bar-height seating
  • Eight-camera speaker-tracking system triggered by microphone mute/unmute status
  • Crestron control system unifying mic levels, displays, and motorised shades
  • Custom “C”-shaped conference table pre-cut to exact microphone specifications

Boundary-Layer Microphones

CS1SN-RF microphones at every seat, engineered in solid brass with individual mute/unmute switching and RF interference immunity.

Speaker-Tracking Cameras

Eight Vaddio cameras respond to microphone mute status, automatically capturing a wide shot and a close-up of whoever is speaking.

Crestron Control System

A 15″ touch panel unifies mic levels, camera control, and motorised shades, with moderator override for the daily strategy sessions.

Acoustic Treatment

Fabric-wrapped panels and perforated acoustic-wood ceilings tame reverb and bounce-back for a room built around audio clarity.

Project Duration
This is really a cool space and acoustically, the room sounds incredible. When the Clockaudio mic gets unmuted and opens up, one of the cameras will cut to a wide shot of the table while the other zooms in.

We chose Clockaudio because of the client’s desire to focus on sound quality. We knew they could provide a higher-end product, while maintaining a minimalistic footprint and simplified functionality for ease of muting and unmuting.
