Clockaudio microphones proved a game-changer for Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket, a division of German manufacturing giant Schaeffler, as the company upgraded its Langen, Germany headquarters under the guidance of Michael Söding, Head of Automotive Aftermarket. The project transformed the company culture from a closed concept to an open concept with a heavy use of glass, providing a sense of transparency for the organisation.
At the heart of the redesign is the Langen site’s 18-seat boardroom — described by Söding as “the heart of our global extended management board” — where flexible presentation, videoconferencing, and broadcast capabilities were built around individually-switched Clockaudio microphones at every seat. The project went on to receive an InAVate Award.
When Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket, a division of German manufacturing giant Schaeffler, upgraded its Langen, Germany headquarters, the project team — guided by Michael Söding, Head of Automotive Aftermarket — was challenged to transform the company culture from closed concept to an open concept with heavy use of glass. The redesign needed to provide a sense of transparency for the organisation while pushing the technical and cultural boundaries of the company through the facility’s use of technology and system design.
Clockaudio C 012 boundary microphones were installed and integrated into the custom-built Brunner boardroom table at each pair of seats. Each microphone has a flush-mount capacitive TS 001 touch switch as well as an integrated LED light indicating whether the microphone is on or off, letting staff instantly see and control which microphones are open in the room.
For presentations, a 98″ touch-enabled wall-mounted screen supports staff and visitors in traditional boardroom use, with laptops and devices connecting via Microsoft Surface Dock, USB and HDMI connections housed in the boardroom table. When the room is needed for videoconferencing, the tables reconfigure into a ‘U’-shape facing an 85″ wall-mounted display, with a Vaddio RoboShot 12 USB camera mounted above and a Vaddio AV Bridge below the table supporting Skype for Business videoconferencing and meeting capture for broadcast.
The success of this project was the result of seamless collaboration between specialized partners, each contributing unique expertise to deliver an exceptional outcome.
Bernd Schindler, a long-time advisor to Schaeffler, saw the opportunity to introduce new technical specifications into the project. Schindler led the new deployment of the boardroom technologies, carried out the majority of the installation, and handled all of the programming.
Franken Lehrmittel Medientechnik, integration and architectural design experts, provided the bulk of the hardware delivery and smaller pieces of the installation for the Langen boardroom.
Clockaudio supplied the C 012 boundary microphones and TS 001 touch switches that gave the boardroom individually-controlled, high-quality audio pickup at every seat.
